Sales of country homes double
A county based property agency - Hodgson Elkington County
Register- has seen house sales in Lincolnshire double in the
first six months of the year as demand for large country houses
and town houses escalates.
"Our sales figures have doubled from last year's six
months of trading with just over £3 million worth of houses having taken
place since the first of January," said Jill Elkington, who heads
Hodgson Elkington's County Register, a service selling cottages
to larger town and country homes.
All the properties sold were within
Lincolnshire and the highest price paid was £600,000. "A lot of transactions are 'off the
market' transactions with strict confidentiality between all
parties. An increasing number of enquiries are coming from
outside the county, from overseas and via the internet.
Lincolnshire is becoming a very desirable place to live," said
Jill Elkington.
The County Register, set up less than three years ago, carries a
maximum of 20 properties at any one time, to ensure that a
personal, prompt and efficient service is achieved. It
specialises in larger country and town houses from
£100,000 upwards.
"There is a strong demand for these types of properties,
particularly those in good locations. The service is particularly
proving a success for those clients who wish to sell their
property without it actually being placed on the open market,"
added Mrs Elkington.
"For many years we have seen a growth in properties to rent owned
by farmers and estates as their tenanted cottages have become
surplus to requirements. We expect this trend to continue as more
people are discovering the special qualities of life in
Lincolnshire. It may be that farm cottages and houses could be
sold now rather than let due to the decline in farm incomes,"
added Mrs Elkington.
"We are receiving an unprecedented level of enquiries from both
outside and within the county and consequently are finding it a
challenge to always meet demand. Lincolnshire has always been
considered a back water, but we seem to be catching up with
neighbouring counties. We believe people should buy now before
prices escalate. Lincolnshire is still the place to invest,"
added Mrs Elkington.
