New venture
for Junior Sports Programme

Local surveyors, Hodgson Elkington, have
introduced a new equipment loan scheme to
boost development of Lacrosse as a junior
sports activity in Nottinghamshire.
The firm is working with Nottingham Lacrosse
and English Lacrosse Association to extend
the sport into junior schools in the East
Midlands by training instructors providing
loan equipment for use by schools.
The programme allows schools to test extending
their sports curriculum without the need
to incur expense of teacher coaching or buying
new equipment.
Lacrosse was born of the native American
Indians, christened by the French and raised
by the Canadians. The game has been played
in the UK since its introduction in the 1860s
and enjoyed by thousands of men and women
since.
The game of Pop Lacrosse has large benefits
as it is: Mixed, non-contact and highly energetic
for all participants.
Pop Lacrosse has been played in primary
schools in Nottinghamshire for many years.
The Junior Sports Programme’s new scheme
is enabling 8 other local schools to play
the game with 15 teachers participating in
a coaching course.
Chris Hodgson of Hodgson Elkington said “Through
this scheme, we are able to offer schools
the opportunity of borrowing Pop Lacrosse
equipment on a weekly basis. In addition,
we have also been able to arrange coaching
for teachers as part of a free Pop Lacrosse
course to ensure that they are aware of the
rules of the game.”
“A tournament for participating schools
is being arranged for this summer, following
which we will be extending the scheme into
Lincolnshire”, he added.
